Legal bits…

Questions….”Soooo…what’s involved in getting married? What docs do I need? What ID do I have to provide? What if I’ve been married before? What if we live overseas? Can I have a legal ceremony here then a destination wedding somewhere exotic? What if I’ve had a cultural ceremony overseas?” It’s natural to have lots of questions around getting married but I’ll make it all super-easy!

To start, you both must:

• Be over 18
• Agree to marry each other (that is, you’re doing it of your own free will)
• Not be very close relatives
• Not currently be married to anyone else.

For the legalities, each of you need to provide:

• Original birth certificates or passports
• Additional photo ID
• Divorce/death certificate if either of you have been married before
• Your parents’ birth & current names, and where they were born.

Legal documents that I will complete with you include: Notice of Intended Marriage; Statutory Declarations; Marriage Certificates, which I will lodge with the Department of Births, Deaths, Marriages.
